FAQ’s

Do you have a Building?
Not yet. We are a very young organization and there is much to accomplish before we can transform our ideas and plans into an institution for Natural History. There are Portland locations in mind but as a community founded and focused group, we would love your input! Please feel free to email us your ideas for where we might someday find a home. We appreciate your opinion and involvement!

Do you have 501(c)(3) status?
We are Incoporated in the State of Oregon and the application process for acceptance as a 501(c)(3) non-profit is under way. Understanding that this status is a vital part for considering contributing to the ONHC, we are fundraising and diligently working towards this goal. Emails and updates will be sent the moment we achieve non-profit status. Please let us know if you would like to be included in the email updates.

Doesn’t Portland already have a Natural History Museum?
Portland has a number of fantastic art, science, history and children’s Museums. However, none of these institutions focus solely on preserving, presenting, and interpreting a Natural History collection. By offering such a collection in this manner, more dedicated information becomes available to the public. Through an established Natural History Museum, we hope to educate and encourage the interest in the history of the planet, where we stand today, and where we might be headed in the future.

What Can I Do to Help?
As a small non-profit startup, we will need help from a wide variety of people and organizations to make our vision a reality. The ONHC would be grateful for your help in the following areas:

  • Financial contributions
  • Building real estate and planning
  • Advertising and printing assistance
  • Exhibit design and fabrication
  • Architecture and interior design
  • Natural history objects: fossils, rocks, casts, prepared specimens
  • Volunteers to help with organization, research, fundraising events, and community development

Join the Coalition and use your skills to help bring Natural History to Portland!
